Good Words from the Word Part 5

We can all use some encouragement. Why not open our hearts and minds to the One we call the Word, the embodiment of Divine wisdom and life?

Jesus spoke some very surprising words just before his death, words like these: I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete (John 15:11). Joy seems like a strange topic on the night before his crucifixion. Jesus was not putting on a brave face, he meant it—joy and discipleship go together.

Joy is knowing that no matter what I am held in the hands of God. Even in the face of suffering? Yes, because this too shall pass! Even in the face of denial and betrayal? Yes, because love covers a multitude of sins! Even in the face of grief? Yes, because those who mourn will be comforted! Even in the face of death? Yes, because life wins!

So, head up, shoulders back, eyes forward, arms open in blessing, and put a smile on your face. Jesus makes our joy complete. Take heart and be encouraged.
