Key Notes from the reading & sermon:

The Gospel in a New Century, Life That Lasts

If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son.

Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life

[Reading above - John 5: 9-13]

Our weekly study of the Bible is an example of the human and Divine testimony to the salvation history of God. Other examples include worship, the sacraments, creation, and service in Christ’s Spirit. The author of this ancient epistle reminds us that life itself bears witness to the saving grace of God in Christ. The life we know in Christ is meaningful, purposeful, joyful, and everlasting.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Religious life is something we learn and practice. Who fostered your faith? What experiences led you to trust God? How was Christ’s Way exemplified in a winsome way for you?

  • How do you give testimony to the grace and peace of God in Christ? What daily practices serve as an example for those who are looking to you for guidance and support? What story of faith can you share that might inspire those who look up to you?

  • Today is Mental Health Sunday. The pandemic has created a lot of stress and strain on our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. What resources are available to get help and help others?
