Pastor’s Corner – Sunday, Oct. 11
Dear Beloved,
The week before last I had two special opportunities for which I am thanking God and want to share with you.
First, we had a prayer time in the chapel between worship services to prepare for Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day which is on September 30th every year is a day to remember and lament the deaths and generational trauma that happened to Indigenous children who were taken to boarding schools run by white people. Together we learned and considered ways we as followers of Jesus could continue to pray and live, so healing and equity can grow.
Second, Pastor Marc and I participated in an antiracism training for pastors and leaders in the Indiana-Kentuck Conference of the United Church of Christ. We had another opportunity to learn, pray, and discuss ways we can continue to live as the body of Christ in our communities.
I would love to be in conversations with anyone who would like to read or learn more or anyone who would like to be part of a team focusing on working to live out our call as followers of Jesus that people of every race may have access to food, water, housing, education, health care, and safe and meaning places to learn, work, play, rest, and grow. Thank you for the many ways you share the hope, compassion, kindness, and stories of Jesus. It is a blessing to serve with you.
With gratitude and hope,
Sarah
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
